The Crest of Alexandria is a 55+ active adult community built on approximately 47 acres of a former golf course (Hilltop Golf / Piney Run) just five miles from the Capital Beltway in the Kingstowne area of Fairfax County. Developed by Elm Street Development and awarded the 2017 Fairfax County Land Conservation and Tree Preservation Award, the community was designed around a nature-first concept — tree-lined walking trails wind past a koi pond, herb gardens, gazebos, and gathering patios, giving the campus a park-like feel that's rare for a community this close to D.C. The 259 homes span three distinct product types built by three different builders, which is unusual for a single 55+ community. Van Metre Homes built the 32 single-family detached homes (many with main-level primary suites and two-car garages in a modern Tudor style) plus a collection of luxury elevator townhomes. Craftmark Homes built additional elevator townhomes with 2-car garages, averaging around 2,700 sq ft with 3-4 bedrooms. Christopher Companies built the 124 single-level condominiums in four-story elevator buildings with secured garage parking, ranging from 760 to 1,858 sq ft in one- to three-bedroom layouts. A small allocation of Affordable Dwelling Units was also included under Fairfax County's ADU program. Construction began in 2017 and has continued in phases, with most buildings completed by 2020 and resale activity now dominating. The 5,000+ sq ft clubhouse is the social hub: yoga studio, fitness center, demonstration kitchen, party room, game room, business area, and multi-purpose meeting rooms. Outside, residents have pickleball courts, an outdoor kitchen and bar, a fire pit, a yoga lawn for open-air classes, fitness stations along the walking paths, and gardening plots. A full-time activities director coordinates an ongoing calendar of biking groups, exercise classes, gardening, holiday parties, pickleball, travel outings, and social events. Condo owners pay a separate condo association fee in addition to the master HOA. Location is a major part of the pitch. Hilltop Village Center — anchored by Wegmans and including LA Fitness, Burton's Grill, and a full slate of restaurants, salons, and medical offices — is literally walkable from the community. Kingstowne Towne Center, Fort Belvoir, and Springfield Town Center are all within a short drive, and downtown Washington D.C. is roughly a half-hour away via I-95/I-395. The community is pet-friendly and skews toward an urban-adjacent, commuter-accessible lifestyle rather than a resort feel — ideal for buyers who want 55+ amenities without leaving the D.C. metro.
