Sun City MacDonald Ranch is Del Webb's second active adult community in the Las Vegas area, built between 1996 and 2001 at the base of the Black Mountain foothills in southeastern Henderson, Nevada. Sitting at an elevation of 2,100 to 2,400 feet, the community's 2,513 single-family homes and duplex villas are spread across 564 acres, with tiered lots that take advantage of sweeping views of the Las Vegas Valley, the Strip lights, and the surrounding desert mountains. It's the third-largest Sun City community in the Vegas Valley — more intimate and neighborly than Sun City Anthem or Sun City Summerlin, which residents consistently describe as one of its biggest draws. At the heart of the community is the 36,000-square-foot Desert Willow Clubhouse, a full-service amenity hub. Inside, residents have a fitness center, aerobics and dance studio, grand ballroom with a stage (capacity 260), multiple meeting rooms named after national parks (Bryce, Sequoia, Zion, Yosemite, Yellowstone), a billiards room, library, computer room, and a full suite of hobby and craft studios including sewing and quilting, arts and crafts, ceramics, and a multi-purpose studio. Outside, there's a heated outdoor lap pool and spa, three lighted tennis courts, four bocce ball courts, pickleball courts, shuffleboard, horseshoes, and a basketball hoop. Over nine miles of walking and biking trails wind through the community and the greater MacDonald Ranch master plan, including the 2.2-mile High Mesa Trail. The community's crown jewel is the resident-owned Desert Willow Golf Course, an 18-hole, 3,811-yard, par-60 executive course designed by Billy Casper and Greg Nash. Carved into the Black Mountain foothills, it's regarded as one of the most challenging executive courses in Southern Nevada and has earned honors including "Top 10 Executive Golf Courses in America" and "Best Executive Golf Course in Las Vegas." The course is community-owned but open to the public, with residents receiving reduced green fees. On-site practice facilities include one of the largest driving ranges in Henderson and a 9,500-square-foot putting green. The Willows Restaurant and Bar at the clubhouse serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week. Del Webb offered 18 original floor plans ranging from roughly 1,000 square feet to over 2,200 square feet, with single-story homes as the standard and all homes featuring attached two-car garages. Many homes include Nevada rooms, casitas, and large lots that accommodate private pools — a feature less common in newer 55+ communities. About 2,131 are detached single-family homes and roughly 382 are duplex villas. Social life is organized by a full-time lifestyle director and runs through several dozen clubs and interest groups — aqua aerobics, aqua zumba, line dancing, tai chi, yoga, pickleball, tennis, bocce, hiking, golf leagues, poker, chess, bridge, canasta, rummikub, billiards, bingo, belly dance, painting, ceramics, jewelry making, singing, baking, travel groups, AARP Driver Safety, and more. Events include ballroom theater performances, holiday parties, day trips to casinos, organized hikes, breakfasts, and movie nights. The community skews somewhat older on average, with a more traditional social scene than the newest Del Webb builds. The location is a major advantage — I-215 Beltway access is immediate, Harry Reid International Airport is about 15 minutes away, and the Las Vegas Strip is a quick drive. Green Valley Ranch Resort & Spa and The District shopping and dining are five minutes away, Lake Las Vegas is a short drive, and the Henderson Pavilion amphitheater is only minutes from the community. HOA fees are notably low given the amenity package — a reflection of the community being fully established with paid-off infrastructure.
