Covington Village is a gated 55+ condominium community tucked onto 35 wooded acres in Lakewood, New Jersey, just south of Route 70 near New Hampshire Avenue. Developed by Matzel Development beginning in 2005, the community was originally planned for 360 units across 12 buildings, but the developer's bankruptcy and subsequent zoning disputes with Lakewood Township halted construction after 7 buildings were completed between 2005 and 2012. The result is a quieter, smaller-than-planned enclave of 210 condominiums surrounding scenic ponds, with the remaining parcels a long-running source of local land-use debate. The heart of the community is a 12,000 square-foot clubhouse that punches well above its weight for a community this size.
