Sunrise Pointe is a gated 55+ community of 271 low-maintenance homes tucked on the east side of I-19 between the East Frontage Road and Abrego Road in Green Valley, Arizona. Built by Dorn Homes between 1995 and 2002, the community features ranch-style attached townhomes and single-family homes ranging from about 1,200 to 2,100 square feet, most with 2-3 bedrooms, 1 to 2.5 bathrooms, and attached garages. The vibe is quiet, tight-knit, and unpretentious — neighbors who know each other by name, slow mornings on the patio, and an easy pace that fits residents who came to Green Valley for the sunshine, the Santa Rita Mountain views, and the freedom from yard work. At the heart of the community is a 3,000-square-foot private clubhouse with an outdoor pool and spa plus a multi-purpose room used for neighborhood parties, card games, potlucks, and HOA meetings. The community is gated for added privacy and security, and the HOA handles common grounds and amenities so residents can lock up and travel for the summer without worry. What really sets Sunrise Pointe apart is that GVR membership is deeded to every home and transfers with ownership. That means residents get full access to Green Valley Recreation's 13 recreation centers spread across the valley — a massive amenity footprint that no single small community could ever build on its own. GVR facilities include multiple outdoor pools (some with lap lanes and resistance pools), fitness centers, ballrooms, arts and crafts studios, ceramics and clay studios, a lapidary shop, woodworking shop, billiards rooms, pickleball and tennis courts, bocce ball, shuffleboard, walking trails, and meeting rooms. More than 60 clubs and special-interest groups operate through GVR, including Aquabelles water aerobics, arts and crafts association, bocce ball, camera club, canasta, ceramics, chess, clay studio, computer club, couples social bridge, and many more. Sunrise Pointe sits in the heart of Green Valley, walking or short-driving distance to grocery stores, restaurants, banks, and medical offices along the I-19 corridor. Tucson is about 30 miles (roughly 35 minutes) north via I-19, putting Tucson International Airport, the University of Arizona, major hospitals, museums, Saguaro National Park, and Kino Sports Complex within easy reach. The Santa Rita Mountains rise just east of the community for hiking, birding at Madera Canyon, and scenic drives, while Tubac's art galleries and the Mexican border are a short drive south. The elevation of roughly 2,900 feet keeps summers more bearable than Phoenix and winters mild enough for year-round outdoor living, which is why Green Valley has long been a favorite landing spot for retirees and snowbirds from colder climates.
