Crow Creek

Crow Creek is a well-established golf community in Calabash, North Carolina, built around an 18-hole championship course designed by Rick Robbins, a former associate of Jack Nicklaus. The course opened in February 2000 on developer Jerry McLamb's 500-acre family homestead — formerly corn and tobacco farmland — and has earned a reputation as one of the most immaculately maintained courses along the east coast, with TifSport Bermuda fairways and V8 bentgrass greens. The course plays to a par 72 and stretches to 7,241 yards from the championship tees (rating 74.9, slope 138), with five sets of tees accommodating every skill level. It's a public course, so residents and visitors both play it. The community itself is divided into two distinct neighborhoods separated by Hickman Road. The west side is home to custom single-family homes — many brick-accented, craftsman-inspired, with screened porches, golf course or pond views, and coastal Southern styling. The east side houses the Crow Creek condominium community (including the Cottages of Crow Creek and newer buildings like The Alexander), where Bella Homes continues to build new two- and three-bedroom luxury condos starting in the upper $200s. Hunter Quinn Homes also builds single-family homes in the community. Total build-out is approximately 400 homes, with construction running from 2003 through 2020 and ongoing new condo construction. Amenities are resort-style and extensive for a community this size: three community pools (two outdoor, one indoor), two fitness centers, pickleball and tennis courts, multiple clubhouses, walking trails, and scenic lakes and ponds throughout. The main clubhouse — a 14,000-square-foot Low Country-style building — anchors the community with a pro shop, lounge with fireplace, game room, library, and an on-site restaurant and bar open daily for breakfast and lunch, with an outdoor veranda overlooking the 18th green. A full-time activities director coordinates social clubs and events. Crow Creek is gated (the single-family section is fully gated; the overall community is often described as partially gated due to the condo side's layout). While not deed-restricted 55+, it draws heavily from retirees and second-home buyers thanks to its low-maintenance options, coastal setting, and golf-focused lifestyle. Short-term and long-term rentals are allowed in the condo section, making it popular with investors and vacation-home owners as well. The location is a real strength — Calabash is the self-proclaimed "Seafood Capital of the World," famous for Calabash-style seafood, and sits right on the North Carolina/South Carolina border. Residents are 15 minutes from Sunset Beach and Ocean Isle Beach, 20 minutes from North Myrtle Beach, and 45 minutes from downtown Wilmington, with Holden Beach and the Intracoastal Waterway also close at hand.
