Anthem Country Club is a guard-gated community tucked into the Sonoran Desert foothills at the base of Daisy Mountain, about 30 miles north of downtown Phoenix just off I-17. Developed by Del Webb between 1999 and 2006 as the private, country-club half of the larger master-planned Anthem community, it contains roughly 2,900 single-level homes ranging from approximately 1,000 to 4,600 square feet — from cozy second homes to luxury estates with detached casitas, guest houses, three-car garages, and panoramic golf course or mountain views. Four guarded gates, patrolled streets, and transponder access give the neighborhood a distinctly private feel compared to the rest of Anthem. The centerpiece is Anthem Golf & Country Club, now operated by Invited Clubs (formerly ClubCorp) and recognized as a Distinguished Club of America. Locally it's known as "the club with two of everything" — two championship 18-hole golf courses designed by Greg Nash (Persimmon, which opened with the community in 1999, and Ironwood, which opened in 2004), two full practice facilities with all-grass driving ranges and large putting greens, two clubhouses, two resort-style heated pools with lap lanes and spas, two state-of-the-art fitness centers, and two tennis gardens totaling roughly 15 hard courts including a stadium court. The Persimmon course features a signature 18,000-square-foot double green that finishes both the 9th and 18th holes; Ironwood is the tougher layout, famous for "Anthem Alley" — the water-heavy 10th through 12th holes. Elevation changes across the property run from 50 to 300 feet and sunsets are widely considered some of the best in the Valley. A social membership comes automatically with every home purchase and includes full access to both clubhouses, both fitness centers, tennis, pickleball, bocce, the Spa at Persimmon, and dining at Persimmon Bar & Grille (refined sunset-view dining) and the Barrel House (casual pub fare with seasonal brews). Full golf membership is a separate, optional tier with its own initiation fee and monthly dues. Friday and Saturday happy hours are a staple of the social calendar, alongside wine tastings, blues/BBQ nights, golf tournaments, tennis tournaments, fitness classes (Zumba, Pilates, yoga, cycling), hiking outings, and a full events calendar run through the club. An outdoor grass amphitheater seats up to 200 and a ballroom accommodates up to 450 for private events. Residents also enjoy access to the broader Anthem community amenities outside the gates — the Anthem Community Park, water park, and community center in Parkside — and through the Invited/Anthem ONE program, reciprocal access to more than 300 private clubs worldwide. Although Anthem Country Club is not deed-restricted 55+, it skews heavily toward empty nesters, second-homeowners, and retirees drawn by the gated security, single-level living, and golf-centric lifestyle. Everyday conveniences including Fry's and Safeway grocery stores, a Starbucks, restaurants, and the 50+ store Outlets North Phoenix sit minutes from the gate, with HonorHealth Sonoran Crossing Medical Center roughly seven miles south and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport about 36 miles down I-17.
