Tampa Bay Golf and Country Club is a gated 55+ community spread across roughly 730 tropical acres in San Antonio, Florida, about 30 minutes north of downtown Tampa and 25 miles from the Gulf of Mexico. Development began in 1994 and construction continues today, with a planned total of 1,336 single-family homes built by a rotating cast of national builders — K. Hovnanian, Lennar, Transeastern, US Homes, and Engle Homes — giving the community an unusually diverse mix of floor plans and architectural styles for a single master-planned property. Homes range from roughly 1,276 to more than 2,600 square feet with two to four bedrooms, attached two- or three-car garages, and options like golf cart storage, granite or Corian counters, and walk-in closets. All homes are single story. The heart of the community is 27 holes of golf: an 18-hole championship course and a 9-hole executive course, both designed in a Scottish links style with narrow tree-lined fairways, water hazards, a putting green, driving range, and pro shop. Homes line the fairways, and residents can choose between golf memberships or pay-per-round access. The resident-owned, roughly 15,000-square-foot clubhouse anchors social life with an elegant ballroom and stage for live entertainment, the Champions Grille Room serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, a sports pub with multiple TVs, card and game rooms, a craft room, media room, library with computer stations, and an aerobics-equipped fitness center. Outside there are two heated swimming pools, a heated spa, lighted tennis courts, pickleball courts, shuffleboard, horseshoe pits, volleyball, bocce, two dog parks, and walking, jogging, and biking trails winding through the community. The social calendar is known for being busy: a full-time activities director programs concerts, musicians, travel excursions, brunches, and dozens of resident-run clubs. Both the front and back gates are staffed 24/7, and HOA dues — which vary by home type from roughly $91 to $400 per month — cover lawn maintenance, cable TV, internet, water, sewer, trash, and access to common amenities. There is no CDD. Country club membership is separate and optional for non-golfers. Location blends small-town quiet with easy big-city access. Historic San Antonio and Dade City (about 15 minutes away) offer local restaurants and antique shops, while I-75 provides a straight shot to downtown Tampa (~30 minutes), Wesley Chapel's Shops at Wiregrass and Tampa Premium Outlets, Busch Gardens, and the Gulf beaches. Healthcare options are abundant with AdventHealth Wesley Chapel, Florida Medical Clinic, Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa General, and the VA all within reach. Tampa International Airport is roughly 26 miles south and Lakeland Linder is about 29 miles east.
