Winterhaven is a gated 55+ community tucked into the southeast corner of Sierra Vista, Arizona, built around the Pueblo Del Sol Country Club and Golf Course. Developed between 1998 and 2012 by Castle & Cooke and KE&G, the community comprises 630 single-family homes on quiet, tree-lined streets with mountain views of the Huachucas in nearly every direction. What sets Winterhaven apart in Sierra Vista is that it's the only 55+ community in the city wrapped around a golf course. The high-desert setting sits at roughly 4,600 feet of elevation, delivering a mild four-season climate with warm (not scorching) summers and cool but sunny winters — a noticeable contrast to the lower Phoenix and Tucson valleys. The surrounding landscape is extraordinary: the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area, Coronado National Forest, Ramsey Canyon Preserve (a world-class birding destination), and the Huachuca Mountains are all within a short drive. Tucson International Airport is about an hour north via AZ-90, and the Mexican border at Naco and Nogales is a casual day trip south.
