Surfside Beach Club is a gated, retirement-focused community spread across 200 acres in Surfside Beach, South Carolina — less than two miles from the Atlantic Ocean and a short golf cart ride to the Surfside Beach Fishing Pier. Though originally marketed as a 55+ community, it is not deed-restricted and now welcomes residents of all ages, though it retains a strong retirement-oriented character with an active social calendar and predominantly older demographic. The community's 498 single-family homes are organized into six distinct neighborhoods, each with its own architectural character: Chalet (smaller Craftsman-style homes with gabled roofs, tapered columns, and front porches — available resale only), Landings (brick homes with pitched roofs and recessed entryways), Lake, Lake Forest (larger luxury lots with upgrades), Coral Springs (mid-size homes with private courtyards and stucco exteriors), and Clearwater Lakes (executive-style homes on larger homesites). A newer natural gas section called Belle Mere rounds out the development. Most homes are single-story ranch layouts ranging from about 1,384 to 2,697 square feet, with two or three bedrooms, attached two-car garages (often side-loading), and open floor plans. Bill Clark Homes is the primary builder, offering over 30 floor plans across the sections — popular plans include the Red Birch, White Oak, Southern Oak, and Starfish. Thirteen lakes wind through the community, each accented with decorative fountains and frequented by resident families of ducks and geese — nearly half the homes back to water. Sidewalks, lush landscaping, tall deciduous trees, and short palms give the development a well-groomed, resort-like feel. The central clubhouse anchors social life with an outdoor pool and hot tub, fitness center, card room, library, multi-purpose/meeting rooms, demonstration/catering kitchen, and a gazebo. Outside, residents enjoy walking and biking trails, horseshoe pits, and common green spaces. The social scene is notably active for a community of this size. Residents participate in clubs and events including men's golf, water aerobics, bocce ball, quoits, bunco, arts and crafts, breakfast club, high tea, a blues and jazz festival, cocktail pool parties, movies under the stars, game nights, yard sales, Halloween celebrations, and Healthy Bones classes. The 'Surfside Beach Club' vibe is intimate and neighborly — residents describe it as close-knit and walkable, with golf carts being the preferred mode of transportation to the beach. Location is a major draw. The community sits just off Highway 17 Bypass at Glenns Bay Road, putting residents minutes from Myrtle Beach to the north and Murrells Inlet's MarshWalk restaurants to the south. Myrtle Beach International Airport is a short drive away, and the St. James school district (Seaside Elementary, St. James Middle, St. James High) serves the area. Fully built out, Surfside Beach Club is now a resale market — a mature, established community rather than a new-construction neighborhood.
