About Myrtle Beach Golf & Yacht Club

An established 1,024-home gated community seven miles from Myrtle Beach, blending 1980s ranches, newer single-family homes, and small condo buildings across neighborhoods like Camelot, Ashley Cove, The Gardens, and The Fairways. A rare $80–$100 monthly HOA covers lawn care, trash, 24-hour manned security, and a full amenity center with pool, tennis, shuffleboard, trails, and clubhouse. Despite the name, the on-site golf course is closed and there's no marina, but affordable coastal living and an active social calendar more than make up for it.

Myrtle Beach Golf & Yacht Club is an established, gated community tucked into the Forestbrook/Socastee area of Myrtle Beach, just seven miles from the Atlantic. Built out in waves between 1985 and 2012, the master community now contains 1,024 residences spread across several distinct neighborhoods — the original 1980s section plus Camelot, Ashley Cove, The Gardens, and The Fairways — with newer vinyl-sided four and five bedroom homes with two-car garages sitting alongside the classic two and three bedroom ranches. A handful of small condo buildings (Heritage, Savannah, Night Heron, and others along Blue Heron Boulevard and Creekwatch Road) sit within the gates too, giving the community an unusually wide price range for the coast. Despite the name, there is no longer a working golf course or yacht club on site. The former Heron Point Golf Course has closed, and homes that used to back to the fairways now overlook a wooded, park-like greenspace. Scenic lakes and ponds are scattered throughout, and walking and biking trails lace the neighborhoods together. What residents get in place of the golf course is a genuinely affordable, low-maintenance coastal lifestyle with a strong amenity package for the price. The HOA — roughly $80 to $100 a month — covers weekly front-yard mowing, trash pickup, road maintenance, grounds upkeep, property management, and the full 24-hour manned gate and patrol, which is the community's biggest selling point for retirees and snowbirds looking for a lock-and-leave second home. The community center is the social hub. It houses a multi-purpose room, library, arts and activity rooms, and card/game rooms, and opens out to the outdoor pool, two outdoor spas, three tennis courts, shuffleboard courts, a basketball court, a covered pavilion and picnic area, and a playground for visiting grandkids. Pickleball courts are in the works per recent listings. A secured RV and boat storage lot is available for a small additional fee. Social life is active and resident-driven rather than staff-programmed. Clubs and standing activities include aerobics, yoga, Zumba, bingo, poker, canasta, cards, Mah Jongg, bible study, biking, a men's golf club and women's golf club that travel to local courses, a women's club that runs fashion shows and cookouts, a senior singles group (Good Time Gals), community yard and bake sales, and annual events like the Christmas cocktail party and Christmas luncheon. It's not age-restricted — the HOA explicitly welcomes all ages, singles, couples, families, and pets — but the culture skews heavily toward retirees and second-home owners, which is why most real-estate marketing pitches it as a 55+ option. Location is a major value driver. The gate opens onto Highway 707 with fast access to Highway 31, putting Market Common, Coastal Grand Mall, Murrells Inlet's Marshwalk, Surfside Beach, and the Myrtle Beach boardwalk all within a 10-to-20 minute drive. Grand Strand Medical Center, Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital, and Myrtle Beach International Airport are all close by. For buyers who want the Grand Strand lifestyle — beach days, live music, dozens of off-site golf courses, and year-round sunshine — without paying Grande Dunes or Market Common prices, this is one of the more proven and affordable options on the south end of Myrtle Beach.
