Indigo Creek is a well-established golf course community in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, wrapped around the 18-hole Indigo Creek Golf Club — a Willard Byrd design praised for its scenic Lowcountry setting, flowing creek, mature oaks, and lakes scattered across the fairways. The community sits just off Highway 17 Bypass on the border of Garden City Beach, about 10 minutes south of Myrtle Beach and within a short drive of the Atlantic coast, the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk, Huntington Beach State Park, and Brookgreen Gardens. Development began in 1992, with most of the original homes built from the mid-1990s through the 2000s on oversized lots lined with mature oaks, azaleas, and crape myrtles. Homes include a mix of ranch and traditional two-story plans in brick, siding, or stucco, with 2 to 5 bedrooms and square footage ranging from around 1,000 to over 4,500 square feet. Many lots back directly onto the fairways or overlook the course's signature lakes and ponds. The community totals 629 homes at full build-out; as of late 2024 roughly 294 had been constructed, with Lennar reopening a new section in early 2025 to build out the remaining 300+ homesites. Lennar's current offerings include the St. Phillips ranch plan and the larger two-story Litchfield II and Kensington plans, with prices in 2025 generally ranging from the low $400s to the mid-$500s. While Indigo Creek is not deed-restricted to 55+, it draws a heavy retiree and second-home population thanks to its low HOA fees, golf-centric lifestyle, and relaxed coastal setting. Homeowners represent a broad mix of ages, backgrounds, and interests, but the community has a distinctly retirement-friendly feel. A full-time activities director coordinates events throughout the year, including an Annual Holiday Party, barbecues, live performances, a Mardi Gras Party, a Homeowner Golf Scramble, the Best of Nine Ladies' League, and a popular Golf Cart Parade. A Book Club and Bocce group add to the calendar. Community amenities include a clubhouse with a multipurpose/meeting room, bar, and dining space; an outdoor pool with patio; bocce ball courts; scenic lakes and ponds; and walking areas among parks and natural spaces. Golf is an optional add-on — residents can purchase a membership to the on-site Indigo Creek Golf Club for an additional fee. Golf carts are permitted for owners and tenants. HOA dues are notably low — roughly $63 to $75 per month — and cover common grounds, amenities, and grounds maintenance. For everyday needs, residents are minutes from Food Lion, Publix, Walmart, and Kroger, and Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital is just down the street. Myrtle Beach International Airport is about a 20-minute drive north, and Charleston is roughly two hours south for day trips. For golfers, the surrounding Grand Strand offers dozens of additional courses including the International Club, Indian Wells, Wachesaw Plantation, and TPC Myrtle Beach.
