Blackmoor

Blackmoor is an established golf course community in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, built around the Gary Player-designed Blackmoor Golf Club — the only Gary Player signature course in the Myrtle Beach area. Constructed primarily between 1999 and 2000 by Centex Homes on the historic Longwood Plantation along the Waccamaw River, Blackmoor comprises approximately 612 homes spread across six distinct neighborhoods: Brookhaven, Devonshire/Muirfield, Somersby, Waterhall, Wellington, and the Marcliffe condominiums. A handful of custom builders also contributed homes in the estate sections, so the community offers real architectural variety rather than a single production look. This is a non-gated, all-ages community rather than a deed-restricted 55+ neighborhood, though it draws a large share of retirees and second-home owners because of the golf, the low HOA, and the proximity to the beach. The atmosphere leans toward friendly and quiet — tree-lined streets, mature landscaping, brick, stucco, and vinyl-sided homes, and many lots that back up to the golf course or the ponds that wind through the property. Most single-family homes fall in the 1,600 to 2,200 square foot range, with larger custom homes in the more prestigious sections running 3,000 to 4,000+ square feet. Marcliffe offers 1,050 to 1,500 square foot condos in two- and three-bedroom layouts, most with large screened porches overlooking the course or ponds, making it a good fit for buyers who want lock-and-leave, maintenance-free living. Amenities are straightforward but well-kept: an outdoor community pool, tennis courts, pickleball courts, a clubhouse with a multi-purpose room, a playground, and scenic lakes and ponds throughout. Marcliffe and Marcliffe West each have their own additional pool and patio. Golf Club membership is optional and separate from the HOA — residents can play pay-as-you-go or join — and the course hosts regular leagues, scrambles, and tournaments for those who want the competitive side. Streets are golf cart–friendly. The location is a major selling point. Blackmoor sits off Highway 707, roughly 5–6 miles from the beach at Garden City, about 5 miles from the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk (widely known as the seafood capital of South Carolina), minutes from Huntington Beach State Park and Brookgreen Gardens, and a 25-minute drive to Myrtle Beach proper. The St. James school cluster is nearby, and Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital is minutes away. Compared to pricier Grand Strand golf communities like Wachesaw Plantation or Willbrook, Blackmoor is consistently described as a more attainable option — same quality of life, lower cost of entry.
