Grand Haven is a gated 55+ active adult community in Romeoville, Illinois, located approximately 36 miles southwest of downtown Chicago in Will County. Jointly developed by Del Webb and Lakewood Homes, the community broke ground in 2002 and sold out in 2004, and is now entirely a resale market. Built on 165 acres, Grand Haven is home to 677 ranch-style residences — 419 single-family homes and 258 attached ranch townhomes — giving it an intimate, manageable scale that residents frequently cite as a key draw. With just under 700 homes, it's small enough that neighbors actually know each other, but large enough to support the amenity footprint of much bigger communities. The 15,000-square-foot clubhouse is the social heart of the community. Inside, residents have access to a state-of-the-art fitness center, indoor swimming pool and hot tub, locker rooms with showers, a grand ballroom used for dances, parties, and classes, a library, computer lab, card room, billiards room and pub, ceramics/pottery studio, hair salon, and multiple meeting rooms. Outdoors, the amenity package expands to an outdoor pool, tennis courts, pickleball courts, bocce ball courts, basketball, shuffleboard courts, horseshoe pits, grilling areas, walking trails, and well-stocked fishing ponds. The community entrance features landscaped ponds and mature trees, and a long-tenured landscape crew keeps the common areas tidy year-round. Social life is driven by a full-time activities director who coordinates more than 30 clubs and special-interest groups. Regular offerings include book club, computer club, travel club, Bible study, golf club, theater company, swim club, pool players, bowling, fishing, gardening, needlecraft, ping pong, Sunday games, tennis, ballroom dance, bean bags, bingo, bocce, bunco, canasta, ceramics, and a veterans' group. The community also organizes off-site trips to casinos and ball games, and there's a strong culture of informal socializing in the clubhouse pub and around the pool. Homes are all single-level ranch designs. Lakewood Homes built the attached ranch townhomes (1,170 to 1,800 sq ft) as well as the smaller single-family homes; Del Webb built the larger single-family homes (1,550 to 2,120 sq ft, with some floor plans extending larger with options). Detached homes commonly feature 42-inch cabinets, bay-window eating areas, crown molding, ceramic tile, fireplaces, and patios. Attached homes often include dens, sunrooms, extended cabinetry, vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors, underground sprinklers, and private patios. HOA fees differ by home type — single-family fees cover weekly lawn service, snow removal (2" or more), driveway seal-coating every three years, mulch replacement every three years, and amenity access; townhome fees include all of that plus roof and siding maintenance. The association is professionally managed by FirstService Residential with an on-site manager. Association rules are primarily 55+, with a small carve-out allowing a limited number of owners aged 50–54. Location is a strong selling point. Grand Haven sits just off Weber Road and Renwick Road, five miles from I-55 and minutes from the I-355 interchange, putting the full sweep of the Chicago metro within easy reach. Mistwood Golf Club sits adjacent to the community, Joliet is about seven miles away, and award-winning Naperville is 15 miles north for higher-end shopping, dining, and healthcare. Midway Airport is roughly 23 miles and a 30–35 minute drive via I-55.
