Grand Harbor is a gated, master-planned waterfront community on the western banks of the Indian River / Intracoastal Waterway in Vero Beach, Florida. Spread across roughly 1,174 homes in a mix of distinct island and village neighborhoods, it's one of the Treasure Coast's most established resort-style communities — and the only mainland Vero Beach community offering a full club-amenity package paired with a private oceanfront Beach Club. The community is all-ages (its sister community, Oak Harbor, is the age-restricted 55+ neighborhood next door), but the lifestyle skews heavily toward semi-retired and retired residents who want golf, boating, tennis, and a dense social calendar without driving anywhere. Development began in 1988 under GH Vero Beach Development, and new construction continues today — GHO Homes is actively building in three neighborhoods: The Reserve, The Falls, and Laguna Village, with new homes starting in the mid-$500Ks and Laguna Village estates running $1.7M–$3.5M+. The centerpiece is a 32,000-square-foot Mediterranean-style clubhouse with four dining venues, a pro shop, and card/locker rooms. Golf is the headline: two 18-hole championship courses — the Joe Lee–designed River Course, which winds along the Indian River and features a signature 14th hole praised by international golf writers, and the Pete Dye–designed Harbor Course, a Scottish-links-inspired layout with tiered greens and deep pot bunkers. Both courses are certified Audubon Cooperative International Sanctuaries. The racquet sports complex has 10 Har-Tru tennis courts (including two stadium courts), dedicated pickleball courts, and three bocce ball courts. Grand Harbor hosts the annual Vero Beach International Tennis Open, a $75K USTA-sanctioned WTA event drawing pros from 30+ countries. On-site is a 161-slip protected deep-water marina (the Loggerhead Marina at Grand Harbor) that can accommodate vessels up to 120 feet, with direct access to the Indian River Lagoon and — via the Sebastian Inlet about 12 miles north — the Atlantic Ocean. The private, staffed oceanfront Beach Club, a 10-minute drive east across the Barber Bridge, features a year-round temperature-controlled pool, private cabanas, beachside chair service, a poolside bar and grill, and an elegant oceanfront dining room. Neighborhoods reflect a wide range of lifestyles and price points. Harbor Pointe, Harbor Island, and Harbor Village are condo buildings with marina views. St. Andrews Island, Victoria Island, Harmony Island, and Wood Duck Island (a Robert A.M. Stern–designed Spanish-inspired village) offer single-family homes and townhomes. The Reserve, Laguna Village, and The Falls are the newer-construction neighborhoods. Condos sell from the $150K–$300K range; townhomes and villas in the $300K–$700K range; interior single-family homes from the high $600Ks; and riverfront estate-island homes reaching $2M–$4M+. Club membership is separate from homeownership — residents are not required to join, and the club also accepts non-resident members. Membership tiers range from Social (Beach Club access with limited golf/tennis) to Full. Summer membership reciprocity extends to 16 local Indian River golf courses. The full-time activities director runs a packed calendar of social clubs: Audubon Society bird walks, bocce leagues, computer and language classes, painting, mahjong, gin, bridge, dinner shows, wine socials, Chef's Table events, and holiday parties. The community is deeply engaged with the local Answer to Cancer charity benefiting the adjacent Cleveland Clinic Indian River Cancer Center. Vero Beach itself is known for its arts scene, beaches, and walkable downtown, and Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital is about five minutes from the front gate.
