Ashbury Crossing is a small, intimate 55+ active adult community of 127 attached brick cottages tucked into Mebane, North Carolina, just one mile from the city's historic downtown. Built by Cimarron Homes between 2006 and 2020, the community sits within the larger master-planned Ashbury neighborhood (which also includes the all-ages Ashbury Green section) and offers an unusual blend of country-style quiet and true Triangle-area convenience — minutes from I-40/I-85, Tanger Outlets Mebane, and Lake Michael Park's 59-acre public lake. The homes are the headline here. Every cottage is Energy Star certified and NGBS/GBI Green-Certified, with all-brick exteriors, 10' x 12' patios, sodded yards, and architecturally specified landscape packages. Cimarron offered seven floor plans ranging roughly 1,248 to 2,020 heated square feet (with some larger plans stretching toward 2,700 sq ft), most featuring first-floor owner suites, open living areas, 2–3 bedrooms, 2–3 baths, and 1- or 2-car garages. Four plans offer true one-level living; the rest put the owner's suite on the main floor with bonus space above for visiting family. Residents regularly report energy bills well below comparable homes in the area — Cimarron markets the homes as roughly 20% more efficient than standard new construction. Lifestyle is low-maintenance by design. The HOA handles all exterior and yard maintenance, landscaping, and common area upkeep, so residents are free to travel, garden on their own terms, or spend time at the amenity center. The central amenity area includes a fitness center with cardio and strength equipment, an outdoor pool with a landscaped deck, an open-air pavilion with stone fireplace, gas grills and an outdoor kitchen, shuffleboard courts, walking and biking trails through the community's 25 acres of open space, a day spa/salon/barber shop, and multi-purpose meeting rooms. The scale is small — this is a neighborhood where you'll recognize your neighbors — and the social life tends to be informal, centered around the pool, pavilion gatherings, and walks to Lake Michael Park next door. Location is a genuine strength. Downtown Mebane (boutiques, restaurants, the public library, Mebane Arts & Community Center) is a 5-minute drive. Tanger Outlets is under 10 minutes. Durham and Greensboro are each about 40 minutes, Chapel Hill and UNC are 20 miles, and Raleigh is within an hour. The community is the only 55+ neighborhood of its kind in the immediate Mebane area, which gives it a distinct identity in a part of the Triangle otherwise dominated by all-ages subdivisions.
