Summerplace is a resort-style 55+ community in NE Portland spanning 135 beautifully maintained acres of mature trees, sidewalks, and tree-lined common spaces. Developed between 1979 and 1998, it's one of the Pacific Northwest's largest age-restricted communities with 807 homes housing roughly 1,000 residents — 585 single-family houses plus 222 condominiums split between two complexes: Glenwood Place (144 units in 21 two-story buildings, built 1983–1988) and Windsor Place (78 units across three buildings, built 1990–1998). Single-family homes range from about 1,000 to over 2,100 square feet and come in one- and two-story floor plans with primary suites on the main level, attached one- or two-car garages, and one to three bedrooms. Popular models include the Salishan, Hillcrest, Bay View, Riviera, and Englewood. Condos run from roughly 750 to 1,450 square feet with one or two bedrooms, secured entries, underground parking at Windsor Place, and deeded storage. The condo complexes are governed by their own boards, but all condo owners are also members of the Summerplace HOA and share access to the central amenities. At the heart of the community sits a busy clubhouse with a ballroom, two meeting rooms, two exercise rooms, a billiards/gaming room, a library, card rooms, and free Wi-Fi. Outside the clubhouse residents use an outdoor pool and patio, hot tubs, two tennis courts, shuffleboard, horseshoe pits, bocce, and a network of walking and biking paths that wind through the greenways. RV and boat storage is available subject to availability. Socially the community runs on resident-driven clubs and regular events — billiards, bocce, cards, karaoke, movie nights, picnics, potlucks, shuffleboard, table tennis, and a golf group are all part of the rhythm, and residents describe it as a friendly neighborhood where people watch out for each other. Location is a big part of the appeal. Summerplace sits directly across from the Glendoveer Golf Course and fitness trail, with Interstate 84 immediately outside the community for a quick 25-minute run into downtown Portland. Portland International Airport is about six miles away, and Costco, IKEA, Safeway, restaurants, banks, and coffee shops are all within a short drive. Adventist Medical Center is just over four miles from the gate. Weekend options include Government Island State Park, Blue Lake Regional Park, Fairview Lake, Salish Ponds, and the scenic Columbia River Gorge just to the east. A separate assisted living facility sits on the grounds, providing an aging-in-place option for residents whose needs change.
