Claremont

Claremont is a 556-home 55+ planned resort community in the Bethany area of northwest Portland, just 10 miles from downtown and less than two miles from US-26. Developed between 1990 and 2000, the community is organized into four homeowner associations: the Claremont Civic Association (master) plus three sub-associations — Claremont Townhomes, Claremont Greens, and Claremont Greens Townhomes. Homes are split roughly between 456 single-family residences and 100 attached townhomes, most with views of the community's own nine-hole, Par 36, 3,068-yard golf course. In 2012 the Claremont Civic Association merged with the Claremont Golf Club, so the course is now fully resident-owned and open to the entire community rather than a separate private membership. Life centers on a 12,000-square-foot clubhouse (remodeled in 2018) on the west side of Bethany Boulevard, featuring a Fireside Room, Great Hall with ballroom, fully stocked kitchen, library, exercise room, and arts/crafts space. Outside the clubhouse are an outdoor pool, two tennis courts, and croquet and lawn bowling fields. On the east side of Bethany Boulevard, residents of the Greens have access to the Terrace House — a second amenity center with an additional outdoor pool, patio, multi-purpose card room, and an 18-hole putting course that winds through ponds. The resident-owned golf course has two par-5s, two par-3s, water on seven of nine holes, and a practice green and practice hole; the pro shop, drinks, and snacks are available on site. Socially, Claremont has a long-established and engaged culture for a community of its size. Residents run active pickleball, ping pong, contract bridge, choir, book friends, cards, croquet, and men's and women's clubs, plus signature events like August Wine, walk-and-dine outings, holiday parties, BBQs, and a singles-out-to-lunch group. An Architectural Review Committee maintains landscaping and architectural consistency across the neighborhoods. Claremont sits within walking distance of Bethany Village (QFC grocery, Walgreens, banks, library, Starbucks, restaurants) and about a mile from West Union Village (Albertsons) and Cedar Mill shops. The Streets of Tanasbourne and Tanasbourne shopping area — with Target, Best Buy, REI, Macy's, and urgent care — are just over a mile away. Although the addresses read Portland, the community is actually in unincorporated Washington County and students are zoned to the Beaverton School District (Oak Hills Elementary, Five Oaks Middle, Westview High). Portland International Airport is roughly 21 miles east, and Intel, Nike, and Columbia Sportswear are all within a short drive, making Claremont popular with retirees whose adult children work in the Silicon Forest.
