Sierra Canyon is Del Webb's first active adult community in Northern Nevada and the largest 55+ community in the region, with 1,212 single-story homes tucked into the south slope of the Peavine Mountains in northwest Reno. The community sits within the gates of the 2,000+ acre Somersett master-planned golf community, giving residents the intimacy of a dedicated age-qualified neighborhood combined with the amenities and scale of a much larger development. Homes range from about 1,225 to 2,575 square feet with one- to three-bedroom floor plans, two- and three-car garages, open great-room layouts, and lots typically between 0.12 and 0.26 acres — sized for private patios and mountain views without demanding much yard work. The heart of the community is the Aspen Lodge, an 18,805-square-foot clubhouse that functions as a full-time social and fitness hub. Inside, residents have a heated indoor lap pool, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a second-story indoor walking track, an aerobics and dance studio, a ballroom with catering kitchen, a great room, a card room, a hobby and game room, an arts and crafts studio, and two billiards tables. Outside the lodge you'll find a patio with Sierra views, fire pits and grilling areas, an outdoor spa and hot tub, two tennis courts, and four pickleball courts. A full-time lifestyle director keeps the calendar full, and the community supports over 35 chartered resident groups spanning everything from astronomy and wine to poker, mah jongg, line dancing, the Sierra Canyon Singers, biking, downhill skiing, gardening, and watercolor. Classes range from aqua zumba to Wii leagues, and newcomer mixers, cocktail parties, and wine socials make it easy to plug in. Golfers get a real perk: Sierra Canyon residents receive two discounted rounds per year at the Somersett Country Club's championship course and can play the 9-hole Canyon Nine executive course at a resident rate of about $7 per round, with access to the driving range, bocce courts, and putting green at the Country Club. Walking and hiking trails wind through Somersett and up into the Peavine foothills. The community is gated with a robust, well-run HOA managed by Equus Management — Del Webb's side runs about $160/month, with total dues including the Somersett master association typically landing in the $180–$265 range. Location is a major draw. Sierra Canyon sits just off I-80 in northwest Reno, roughly 15 minutes from downtown Reno, 20 minutes from Reno-Tahoe International Airport, 30 minutes to Lake Tahoe, and about an hour from Truckee. Saint Mary's Medical Center is essentially across the freeway, and Renown Regional and Northern Nevada Sierra Medical Center are both reachable within 20 minutes. Nearby shopping centers — Sharlands Square, McQueen Crossings, Ridgeview Plaza, Canyon Creek, and the Mayberry Landing boutique center — put Raley's, Safeway, Save Mart, Walgreens, Ross, Kohl's, and a strong lineup of local restaurants within a few minutes' drive. Add in no Nevada state income tax, a genuine four-season high-desert climate at roughly 4,800 feet elevation, and immediate access to world-class skiing, hiking, and Lake Tahoe recreation, and Sierra Canyon hits a sweet spot that's hard to match elsewhere in the West.
