Carillon North

Carillon North is a gated 55+ active adult community tucked into the lakes, ponds, and savannas of Lake County, Illinois, about four miles west of I-94 between Routes 45 and 83. Developed by Cambridge Homes between 1999 and 2004, the community is fully built out at 361 residences — a mix of attached ranch townhomes and single-family homes arranged in quiet, tree-lined streets just west of the Rollins Savanna Forest Preserve. The attached homes sit in three-, four-, and six-unit buildings and range from roughly 1,268 to 1,694 square feet. Single-family homes run a bit larger, from about 1,700 to 2,300 square feet. Both styles typically offer two bedrooms, two baths, and a two-car garage, with many floor plans adding a den or third bedroom. Common features include breakfast nooks, oversized living/dining combinations, family rooms, walk-in closets, and garden tubs. Townhome owners pay a higher monthly assessment that covers exterior maintenance on top of the lawn and snow care provided to every homeowner. Security is a point of pride: a manned guard house sits at the front entrance, and two additional gates require a resident access card. Private security patrols the neighborhood continuously. The social heart of the community is a 10,000-square-foot clubhouse with a grand ballroom, fitness center with aerobics studio, heated indoor pool enclosed in glass, hot tub, billiards room, card rooms, craft and hobby rooms, computer room, and a lending library. Outdoors, residents enjoy a pool, tennis courts, horseshoe pits, and walking and biking paths woven through the community's ponds and green spaces. Social life is resident-driven. More than 30 clubs, classes, and interest groups — all organized by homeowners — run year-round, covering aerobics, art (watercolor, oil, acrylic), balance class, bike club, billiards, bingo, book club, bowling, bridge, canasta, jewelry making, yoga, theater, and more. Immediately adjacent to the community is the 9-hole Grayslake Golf Course, which was gifted to the Grayslake Community Park District and remains open for residents and the public alike. Location is a major draw. Downtown Grayslake's boutique shopping, the Grayslake Library, and the College of Lake County (classes, concerts, theater) are all minutes away. Gurnee Mills and the Kenosha outlets are a short drive north. Healthcare is well-covered by Lake Forest Hospital, Advocate Condell Medical Center, and Vista Medical Center. Chicago is easily reachable by Metra from the nearby Grayslake station, making day trips to the city painless without a car. The community is professionally managed by Associa of Chicagoland under a self-governing homeowner board.
