Palm Aire is one of Southwest Florida's most established country club communities, sprawling across 1,300 acres along University Parkway on the Sarasota/Manatee County border. The community traces its roots to the historic DeSoto Lakes Golf Club — a former PGA tour stop that once hosted Arnold Palmer — which was reimagined in the early 1970s as one of the region's first master-planned golf communities. Development continued through 2003, ultimately producing 3,752 homes spread across more than 30 distinct neighborhoods including Avalon, Pine Trace, Fairway Six, Country Lakes, DeSoto Lakes, Carlyle at The Villages, Lakeside Woods, Misty Oaks, Broadmoor Pines, Golf Pointe, The Links, Preserves, Conservatory Estates, and many others. The centerpiece is Palm Aire Country Club, a privately-owned, member-equity club sitting in the middle of the master plan. Two 18-hole championship golf courses — The Champions Course designed by Dick Wilson and The Lakes Course designed by Joe Lee — deliver 36 holes of par-72 play, supported by two driving ranges, two putting greens, a chipping green with bunkers, and a professional golf academy. Downtown Sarasota, the Ringling Museum, and the area's renowned Gulf beaches — Siesta Key, Lido Key, and Longboat Key — are all within a 20–30 minute drive. For buyers who want a country club lifestyle, an established neighborhood feel, mature landscaping, and meaningfully lower HOA and entry costs than Lakewood Ranch or Palmer Ranch new-builds, Palm Aire continues to be one of the strongest values on the Sarasota/Manatee line.
