Del Webb at Cane Bay is a gated, golf cart-friendly 55+ active adult community spread across 360 acres in Summerville, South Carolina, about 25 miles northwest of historic Charleston. Built by Del Webb (Pulte Homes) between 2007 and 2017, the community was completed with just over 1,000 single-family detached homes and is now a fully built-out, resale-only neighborhood with mature landscaping, blooming azaleas, preserved wetlands, and man-made lagoons with fountains — many homes back up to water views. The community sits within the larger Cane Bay Plantation master-planned development. The heart of the community is The Resort, a 20,000-square-foot clubhouse and amenity center that anchors daily social and fitness life. Inside, residents find a state-of-the-art fitness center with cardio and weight equipment, a heated indoor lap pool, arts and crafts studios, a card room, a grand ballroom, and flexible hobby spaces. Outside, a heated resort-style pool with beach entry, tennis courts, pickleball courts, bocce ball courts, a firepit, a fishing lake, a dog park, and an event lawn that hosts nighttime concerts and guest speakers round out the amenity package. Miles of scenic walking and biking trails wind through the community, and the neighborhood is golf cart friendly throughout. Lifestyle is the real draw. A full-time on-site Lifestyle/Activities Director keeps the calendar packed, and residents have organized roughly 100 chartered clubs and interest groups spanning everything from pickleball, bocce, tennis, and golf to line dancing, wine tasting, photography, scrapbooking, fine arts, astronomy, Tai Chi, Bible study, bingo, and happy hour groups. The community was named Charleston's Choice Best Active Lifestyle Community by Post and Courier readers in 2020 and has been listed among 55places.com's Top 100 Communities. Residents consistently describe the vibe as active, social, and unusually welcoming for new arrivals. Homes were built across six distinct collections with more than 20 floor plans, ranging from about 1,109 to 3,400 square feet with one to four bedrooms, one-and-a-half to three-and-a-half bathrooms, and two- to three-car garages. Most are one-story Lowcountry designs with front porches, open-concept kitchens, spacious great rooms, and private screened porches overlooking ponds or wooded preserves. Current resale inventory averages around 2,000 square feet. Location is a key selling point. Residents have a Publix within Cane Bay Plantation itself and Earth Fare, Food Lion, Lidl, Walgreens, and CVS all within about 20 minutes. Downtown Summerville's historic shops and restaurants are roughly 12 miles away, Charleston International Airport is about 25–30 minutes, and downtown Charleston, the beaches of Isle of Palms and Folly Beach, and Mount Pleasant are all within an hour. The one trade-off residents note: getting in and out of Cane Bay requires passing through Nexton, which can slow the drive during peak hours.
