Waterwood is a hidden-gem lakefront pocket community tucked away in tiny Yalaha, Florida, on the southern shore of Lake Harris — the largest lake in the Harris Chain of Lakes. With just 127 homes (52 townhomes and 75 single-family and patio homes), it has the kind of small-neighborhood feel that is getting harder and harder to find in Central Florida. The community wraps around a peaceful setting of mature, striking landscaping — oaks, palms, and established tropical plantings that make every drive through the neighborhood feel like a tour through an arboretum. Homes sit on cul-de-sacs, canals, and lakefront lots, ranging from roughly 1,277 to 2,945 square feet. There is a nice mix of townhomes for lower-maintenance living, patio homes, and single family homes with more elbow room. What really sets Waterwood apart is its access to Lake Harris. The community owns a private marina with 22 boat slips available to residents at an almost unbelievable rate — boat slips here run about $10 a month, which is genuinely wild compared to anywhere else on the chain. There is also a private boat ramp, low-cost boat and RV storage, and a waterfront fishing pier where neighbors gather on Friday nights to watch the sun set over the lake. That culture of casual, low-pressure socializing is very much the Waterwood vibe. The clubhouse is small and the activity calendar is lowkey — think a library, pool room/billiards, and a screened community pool — but that is part of the appeal. This is not a mega-resort community with dozens of clubs and a packed calendar. It is a quiet, settled waterfront neighborhood where residents actually know each other, where retirees and families mix, and where the big draw is simply being on the water in a beautiful setting. Location-wise, Yalaha sits in the middle of Lake County's lake country. Leesburg is nine miles northwest, Tavares (the county seat) is about ten miles northeast, and Howey-in-the-Hills is just south. The famous Yalaha Bakery is a five-minute drive. Orlando is about an hour east, Tampa around 75 minutes west, and the Florida Turnpike is ten minutes away — so you are connected when you want to be and tucked away when you don't. For the right buyer — someone who wants quiet, water access, mature trees, and a very affordable way to keep a boat on a major Florida lake — Waterwood is exactly the kind of community you are lucky to stumble onto.
