Fairfield Glade sprawls across 12,700 acres atop Tennessee's Cumberland Plateau at 2,000 feet elevation, about halfway between Nashville and Knoxville off I-40. Developed by Fairfield Communities beginning in 1970, it has matured into one of the South's most established resort-retirement communities — not deed-restricted, but with a median resident age of 66 and roughly 9,100 full-time residents who chose it specifically for the lifestyle. Earning the title 'Golf Capital of Tennessee,' the community offers five championship courses totaling 90 holes, including Stonehenge (four stars from Golf Digest and frequently ranked Tennessee's top public course), Heatherhurst Brae, Heatherhurst Crag, Druid Hills, and Dorchester. A brand-new Druid Hills Clubhouse, restaurant, and pro shop are anticipated to open in August 2026. Golf sits alongside 11 spring-fed lakes (the largest is 109-acre Lake St. George) with two marinas, two beaches, boat and kayak rentals, and excellent bass fishing. The Fairfield Glade Community Center anchors indoor recreation with aquatic facilities, ballrooms, basketball, pickleball, ping pong, and arcade games. The Racquet Center offers four indoor tennis courts, four outdoor clay courts, and eight newer pickleball courts. The CMC Wellness Center — a 30,000-square-foot medical and fitness complex operated by Cumberland Medical Center — provides indoor pools, a walking track, aquatic therapy, and on-site healthcare. Homes range widely. Buyers will find Willshire Heights condos (938 sq ft, 2BR/1.5BA) starting in the low $200Ks, Lakeshore Terrace townhomes (1,252–1,729 sq ft), single-family ranches and craftsman customs throughout Fairfield North and older neighborhoods, and luxury lake or golf-front estates approaching and exceeding $1M. Fairfield Homes has been the dominant builder since the 1970s; other approved builders include Zurich Homes, Cumberland Construction Plus, Lakeland Construction, and Rock Steady Builders. Newer Fairfield North sections (Chestnut Ridge, Maple Ridge, Cappshire Cottages, The Bluffs) feature underground utilities, curbed streets, and wooded homesites. Social life is exceptional — nearly 100 active clubs plus a full-time activities director who coordinates 200+ annual events ranging from classic car shows and concerts to craft fairs, Caribbean nights, and bake sales. Clubs cover everything imaginable: bridge, euchre, duplicate bridge, wood turning, quilting, line dancing, cycling, hiking, kayaking, fly fishing, birding, gardening, amateur radio, geocaching, Civil War Round Table, Ladies Club, Korean War and Vietnam Veterans, and much more. The community is self-contained with the Village Green Mall (grocery, pharmacy, salon, hardware, post office), two country clubs, multiple restaurants, a library, six churches, a dog park, and its own accredited police department along with 24-hour security, fire, ambulance, and paramedic services funded through HOA dues. Catoosa Wildlife Management Area (84,000+ acres) borders the community, and Fall Creek Falls State Park sits 45 minutes away. The 2,000-ft elevation delivers four genuine seasons — low-80s summers, 30s–50s winters, about 14 inches of annual snow, and lower humidity than the Tennessee lowlands.
