1. Drive-on beaches and easy coastal living
Ormond Beach is known for its drive-on beaches, which make days out with grandkids dramatically easier: load up the car, set up your pop-up right on the sand, and pack out at the end of the day without hauling gear over dunes. The dining and nightlife surprised us. Ormond Beach carries the official title "The Birthplace of Speed", the original one-mile beach races set early land speed records here, and the historic Ormond Garage at A1A and Granada still displays vintage cars. Live music, outdoor patios, and seasonal events like Bike Week are part of the calendar, but day-to-day life is far more relaxed than the headlines suggest.
4. Friendly people and a laid-back pace
Patty hears it constantly from new residents: people here are genuinely kind. The pace is slower, the vibe is welcoming, and neighbors actually wave.

You're minutes from the beach, about an hour from Orlando, and roughly 30 minutes from St. Augustine. Daytona Beach International Airport handles quick trips, and Orlando International is about 75 minutes away. Healthcare is solid too: five AdventHealth hospitals serve Palm Coast, Flagler, Port Orange, and the surrounding area, with Jacksonville's major medical centers a short drive north.

Pictona at Holly Hill is one of the largest pickleball venues in the country, with indoor and outdoor courts, beginner lessons, and a restaurant and bar on site. Top-tier players train there, so it works whether you're picking up the sport or already competitive.

Unlike the dry Southwest, Florida's coast stays green year-round, and the ocean breeze keeps coastal temperatures noticeably cooler than inland towns, even in summer.
